Get to grips with your budget planning. Use our template 5-year budget plan spreadsheets to help you model a range of scenarios and then cost your chosen one in detail.

Coronavirus: follow your usual budget planning process

Coronavirus is likely to have affected your school's finances in the form of:

  • Increased cleaning fees and cost of buying personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Increased IT costs (e.g. extra laptops for pupils learning remotely)
  • Decreased income from renting out your school premises
  • Decreased income due to cancelled or postponed fundraising events

Regardless of these changes, your budget planning process should remain the same as before the pandemic. This is because:

  • You can expect to continue operating at your projected capacity in terms of pupil and staff numbers
  • Staffing costs (your biggest expenditure) is unlikely to be greatly affected, as your projected staffing costs should remain about the same regardless of whether pupils and staff are in school or working remotely (though you may need to meet additional costs to cover staff absences - see more here)
  • Your budget funding from the government won't be affected by coronavirus
