Having a standalone EYFS policy is not a statutory requirement, but lots of providers choose to have one.

You have a statutory requirement to have certain policies and procedures in the EYFS, but you may cover these in other policy documents, such as your child protection, health and safety, and complaints policies. This EYFS policy cross-references those other policies where appropriate and lists them in appendix 1.

Model policy: Early Years Foundation Stage

Adapt it to suit your school's context. It's been approved by Forbes Solicitors.

It also covers the more general aspects of EYFS provision, such as your curriculum and how you work with parents and carers.

Please note: this model policy is aimed primarily at maintained schools and academies, but can be easily adapted to suit any school. If you wish to use the policy in a different type of setting – for example, a non-maintained special school – we recommend that you check this policy against any requirements or considerations specific to your context and adapt it accordingly.
